PTE Core Scoring Guide: 10–90 Scores and 19 Task Types | Lengqishui

Understand the PTE Core 10–90 scale, maximum score of 90, all 19 task scoring patterns, four individual skill scores and CLB targets.

The maximum PTE Core score is 90 on a 10–90 scale

Pearson reports the overall score and each Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing communicative skill score from 10 to 90. The highest possible score is 90.

PTE Core has no universal passing score

The required result depends on the immigration program or receiving organisation. Canadian immigration pathways commonly apply a separate CLB requirement to each language skill.

The overall score is not the arithmetic average of four skills

Pearson calculates the overall result across the complete test rather than averaging the four communicative skill scores. Integrated tasks can contribute to more than one skill.

How the 19 PTE Core task types are scored

Pearson uses right-or-wrong scoring, credit for each correct response, and partial-credit traits such as content, form, pronunciation, oral fluency, grammar, vocabulary and spelling. Each task type must be checked against its own scoring pattern.

Connect task scoring with four-skill CLB targets

Confirm the official target for each skill, then use task guidance, AI speaking and writing learning feedback and the CLB converter to plan practice. Third-party feedback is not a Pearson test result.
