Compare PTE Core with CELPIP-General for Canadian immigration
IRCC currently lists both PTE Core and CELPIP-General as Express Entry English-test options. Use the specified version and meet the separate listening, speaking, reading and writing requirements.
Both tests deliver all four skills by computer
PTE Core and CELPIP-General both use a computer and microphone without a live speaking examiner. PTE Core takes about two hours, while CELPIP describes its four-skill General test as one sitting of under three hours.
Their tasks and language situations still differ
PTE Core uses short tasks and several integrated-skill items. CELPIP-General has eight on-screen speaking prompts, while Writing includes an email and a survey response. Similar equipment does not make the preparation interchangeable.
